1. Kristi was not afraid because she didn't know what was going on at the time of the war.

2. If the soldiers spoke to me I would have felt scared because they had guns and I would not know what to say because I was a Jew.

Chapter 2

  • Do you think King Christian did the right thing when he surrendered to the

1. I think King Christian did the right thing because Denmark had a big army and the Danish were small in numbers and they would be defeated quite easily. The king didn't want to see so many people die. I would fight for my leader because I would feel proud of myself.

2. Lise died in an accident before her wedding

3. Lise's death changed her parents in a dramatic way. First, they never spoke about her again in conversation, they kept her trunk closed, Papa seemed tired, and her fiance wasn't full of energy anmore.

The soldiers questioned them asking why were they running on the street. Who Is the Man Who Rides Past?

She got taken away by the Nazi's because she was a Jew.== =

2. It was going to be along night because the Soldiers might start the Raids in Jews houses.

3. Ellen has to spend a night with Annemarie because she isn't Jewish. If the soldiers came I Ellen can pretend that they are sisters.

1. The soldiers came to the apartment because they wanted to see if they knew where the Rosens were.

2. The soldiers expected to find the Rosen's in a hiding place at the Johansen's house.

3. She tore the necklace because it was the Star of David, a symbol of Judaism. She didn't want the soldiers to see that Ellen was a Jew

4. Papa tore a picture out of the album so he could prove that Ellen had black hair when she was a Johansen.

5. While reading this chapter I felt sad because Ellen could have been taken away and harm would have come to the Johansen family.

1. I agree because it could be a fake so she can be brave.

1. She is brave because she did believe when that aunt died but she really didn't

1. She volunteers to bring the packet because she knew the way and she ran like the wind. She also recognized that whatever was in the packet was very important, and Uncle Henrik needed it very badly.
